Theatrical Work

Theatrical Work

I create intimate theatrical work built around sleight-of-hand, storytelling, and live audience participation. The focus is always on presence in the room and the shared experience between performer and audience.

My work is developed for theatres and festivals and has been presented internationally in a range of respected venues and programs.

The Unfair Advantage

“An intimate, gripping piece of live theatre that relies entirely on attention, trust, and presence.”
— — Chicago Tribune

The Unfair Advantage is a one-hour theatrical performance that blends close-up magic, storytelling, and audience interaction. The work is intentionally intimate, structured around attention and trust rather than spectacle.

The show has been produced in multiple international cultural contexts and continues to inform my practice and artistic development.

Presentation history & venues

The Unfair Advantage has been presented in several notable theatrical and festival settings:

  • Steppenwolf Theatre Company (Chicago) — A season in the Merle Reskin Garage Theatre, part of one of the most respected ensemble theatres in the United States.

  • La Jolla Playhouse (San Diego) — As part of the WOW program, a limited engagement that sold out and received strong critical response.

  • Seattle Repertory Theatre — A special season engagement for intimate audiences around a card table.

  • Edinburgh Fringe Festival — Running for the length of the festival to sold out crowds and five star reviews.

  • Soho Place (London) — West End presentation with a full run and global press quotes.

  • Adelaide Fringe (Australia) — Award-winning seasons with five-star reviews that helped establish the work’s reputation.

  • Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylon (Australia) — Extended site-specific residency early in the work’s development.

Critical and audience reception

Across these presentations, The Unfair Advantage has received strong responses from audiences and reviewers:

“You won’t have seen anything quite like this — a rare example of magic functioning as serious theatre.”
— — The Guardian
  • Sold-out runs and extended engagements at major venues such as La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theatre.

  • Featured in major arts press coverage in the United States, including commentary on the unique blend of gambling, psychology, and performance.

  • Cited in London productions with four- and five-star press notices, with audiences and critics highlighting the rarity and impact of the experience.

Current focus and ongoing practice

The Unfair Advantage is not currently touring, but it remains a central property within my theatrical work and may be presented again in future contexts.

“A beautifully calibrated experience that blurs the line between performance, storytelling, and participation.”
— — Time Out

I am actively developing new theatrical projects that build on this practice, exploring themes of attention, agency, and transformation, with further details to be shared in due course.
